As I come across useful links I'll add them here. Here's what I got so far. On writing
Critters online critiquing workshop If you want your Science Fiction / Fantasy / Horror story critiqued, this is a good place to get it done. And it’s free. You just have to critique other’s stories too in return. A great place for lots of useful info too of course. There’s also this great ‘Black Hole’ listing of publishers. Gotham writing courses I’ve taken 3 classes from them (Children’s Book Writing I, Science Fiction Writing I and Advanced) and recommend them. But it also depends on the level of interaction you get with the other students. Try to convince the instructor to have everyone submit homework assignments for critiquing. It makes a huge difference. Writer’s Digest A site and magazine chock full of information for writers. Resources for Romance Writers I found this as a good site for other writing resources. Also good resources in preparation for publishing, e.g. manuscripts and cover letters. (No, I don't write romance, but I'm willing to learn!) How to format your bibliography I ran across this one when I needed to use a quote from an electronic article since I completely forgot how to format it. Fiction Factor Some good articles on writing. Also has a list of paying publishers and contests. You can sign up for their writing newsletter for free. There is a lot of pushing of various e-books on how to write, which I tend to shy away from though. On publishing
Preditors & Editors A useful and objective guide to look at before considering editors, agents, publishers. Helps to identify scams. Manuscript formatting Some useful examples to help you get your submissions formatted properly. Duotrope resource to publishers You can also track your submissions here too. Free sign-up. Locus Magazine Good source of news on publishing for SF&F. Ralan's SpecFic & Humour Webstravaganza Writing market listings by genre & a speculative fiction newsletter. (NEW) Authonomy You can post the first few chapters of your novel here. They have all genres. It's a site set up by Harper Collins where the readers decide which they like. Of course, you want yours to get to the top. It's a way to get exposure, not necessarily published. When I feel ready, I may dare to submit my stuff here as well. From what little I've seen the stuff here is really topnotch. Guide to Literary Agents blog I've signed up for this blog. They have lots of good articles on writing, publishing and often announce new agents looking for submissions.  (NEW) Funds for Writers I signed up for a couple of the newsletters that puts out listings for small freelance markets. You just have to tolerate the hokey photos each time, but it's worth it for the updates and the occaisionaly interesting article. You can even submit articles to be published in the newletter.  (NEW) Organisations
Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America You need to be a member to fully utilise their services. Lots of useful info here. Stuff to read online Abanded Towers Magazine I'm a slush pile editor for this online mag.
